As creepy as this image might be, I actually found it a bit charming because I thought this was all I might be serving up this Thanksgiving! However, after visiting my doctor this morning I realize I might actually have to wait out these last painful three weeks as he seems pretty cozy in there and making no attempts to leave! So, Happy Thanksgiving to my family and friends...wishing we could be together! Staying close to home now is all I can manage and thankfully Jon's family is here to celebrate! I'm so grateful for you all! xoxo

Congratulations to Heather Baker and all the vendors who made The Strawberry Swing Craft Fair a great success! Despite the record setting heat this past Sunday, the artists and crafters set up the most lovely treasure-filled booths. And, I finally got to meet Heather in person, which made the trip and the event so very special! My mother and I took along my niece and two nephews who enjoyed themselves as much as we did! It was really great to meet so many new folks as well as some I've been admiring at a distance for so long. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to photograph everyone and many of my photos are quite grainy...but I'm preggo and it was over 100 degrees so I hope you'll find it to forgive me! xox

I came across one of these beautiful butterflies on Pinterest the other day...but sadly there was no link or credit to the maker! I just happened upon Mister Finch's shop this morning and the mystery was solved! Mister Finch is vintage found object/soft sculpture artist living in Leeds in Yorkshire, England whose bio included this gem: I collect fairytale books, miniature metal chairs and love to hoard things in glass jars. I'm honored to feature the wedding photos of Sheena and Ezra Birt's May Wedding. I wrote a few weeks ago about the topper I made for their wedding cake and now I'm finally delivering on the photos of the rest of their charming lakeside wedding. Sadly, I was unable to attend... however the photos below, taken by Chloe Jennings, beautifully reconstruct the magical moments of the day! I've listed the vendor information below the photos...and you'll notice that Sheena and Ezra, with the help of their creative friends, were responsible for all the charming decorations- from the flowers and centerpieces, handmade fabric wreaths and buntings, to Ezra's hand drawn wedding invitation illustrations. What an impressive feat (disclaimer: they are all professional artists-so don't fret)! I love thoughtful handmade weddings such as the Birt's...they seem so much more personal and special. I was so happy to be a small part of my friend, Sheena Rogers- now Sheena Birt and Ezra's wedding celebration this past weekend! So....did I ever mention that my husband and I finally found a house and moved in late October? That's the main reason why I've been seriously awol around here. Here are some pretty photos that originally sold us on the house...they are the ones from the real estate listing and taken last spring (probably). We were so happy and blessed to find an older mid-century home that was solid and in need of only cosmetic updates.

This house was built for a family in 1963 and we found the blueprints that were drawn up in 1957. Lots of pretty rock all around and my favorite... huge floor to ceiling windows along the back.

The house is tucked away sideways or perpendicular to the street.

Not much of a back yard...but a slope and lots of beautiful trees! It feels like living high in our own bird's nest.

Here it is all nice and open and warm...and styled by someone to appeal to buyers!

Where you'll find us most evenings during these cold snowy days. So that was the view then,

and this is now...

brrrr....we've had a record snowfall this winter here in Indianapolis.

Why, it snowed last night and I think it will again this weekend!

This view from the porch off our bedroom has stayed pretty much the same for the last few weeks.

The only room I have fairly completed and feel comfy baring to the world is the living room nook...

Its so nice to have our things out of boxes! Hopefully, I'll get my act together and have more to show you soon. This weekend I hope to tackle the bedroom...we are still on a mattress on the floor. Not so romantic or cozy after three months! My basement studio is almost together too(Thanks to my Father-in-law, Thank you, FRed!)...now just looking for a great space heater to make it bearable during these frigid months.

I hope you are well too! I've been checking in here and there trying to keep up but haven't felt the itch to post like I used to! So much on the web anymore...I think I'm coming to realize this blog may need to be more about my process of hunting/gathering and artmaking, and featuring more of my artwork than that of others. Although, I fall hard for so many of you incredibly talented folks out there so there's no way I won't still feature others from time to time. Anyhoo, that's all my wash for now. I was so very impressed to learn that Savannah College of Art and Design was responsible for the design and decoration of this year's official Blue Room White House Christmas tree. Working Class Studio interns under the direction of Jonathan Osborne and ShopSCAD's Amy Zurcher and Kyle Millsap were responsible for creating the concept and actual handmade ornaments that were used on the tree. these are really easy to make- just cut out a donut shape from a sturdy piece of chipboard as your base and wrap your yarn and/or pipecleaners round and round like a wreath.

Thanks to Amy's Storque article, I got myself in gear last week and made a few new pieces for my Etsy shop. Which was hard to do as we are currently homeless but blessed to be staying with my in-laws for the time being. I was able to visit home recently and my mom and I spent some time sorting through boxes of old family treasures- many of which I used in these pieces- my Aunt Helen's costume jewelry, and our great- grandmother's amazing millinery bridal headpiece. (Don't worry, I was careful and we kept many special pieces for the future- but most is better preserved in art, right? Anyway, I hope they would be pleased.) xo

I've been making a little art in our hot garage. I'm not sure what I'm thinking working with hot wax out there these 95 degree days...but nonetheless....here they are. You can kind of tell I've got homes and nesting on the brain. Its all I'm looking forward to these last few weeks before we move to Indianapolis. I'm sending all of these down to shopSCAD tomorrow. xo

{This piece is actually a collaborative work between me and a little wren that had taken up nest in a flower pot right outside my window. It was amazing to me watch this busy bird working so hard day after day! I'd never had such a front row seat to a real nest building. Sadly, he (i think) abandoned it one day. I think there was a tussle with another bird or crow as I came home to find it all scattered about. I was so sad waiting day after day to see if he would return. Weeks past and there was no sign of him, so I collected up the remnants and added to his handiwork.}

Man Shops Globe shops SCAD!

There was much excitement a few weeks ago when Keith Johnson visited Savannah College of Art and Design to shoot a segment for his new season of Man Shops Globe for the Sundance Channel. He was working with SCAD's design expert, Rebecca Gardner who presented him with a specially prepared showhouse of work by SCAD artists and designers. The displays were so incredible that I had to share a sneak peek of them with you here! The brilliant design team behind the magical displays are a few folks you will recognize...Amy Zurcher of ShopSCAD, and Trish Andersen and Maureen Walsh of Domestic-Construction. The new season premieres June 30th, 10pm e/p.

The exterior of the showhouse - SCAD's Smithfield Cottage- was adorned with more of those amazing giant fabric lanterns by Karen McVay Butch and Martha Enzmann!

The porch was a showcase for the colorful pillows and puffy frames by SCAD's Working Class Studio.

A peek into the library reveals a surreal vignette composed of a painting by Gregory Eltringham, pottery by Irene McCollam, antique chairs and table, cozied under another McVay-Enzmann Lantern.

A peek into the parlor reveals a collection of handcrafted pillows by several different SCAD-related artists including Working Class Studio, Paige Hathaway Thorn, Domestic-Construction, Amelia Allen, Lauren Vass, Laura Davis and Jessica Rogers. Pottery by Irene McCollam. Handmade bowls by Christine Gentz (acrylic woven, left) and Kara Firstenberger (right).

The dining room table-scape is a mad, bountiful collection of artwork, design and vegetables! The original drawing on wall is "Cash for Gold" by Stephanie Howard.

Jersey City artist Amy Wilson's watercolor drawings feature a cast of child-like female characters who communicate their thoughts, fears, hopes and dreams through diaristic text. Often deeply personal, the work touches on the inner life of the artist while addressing broader cultural ideas about femininity, art, science, and politics. In some instances the drawings become three-dimensional with the incorporation of cut-outs and pop-up constructions.

Well...now that our home is clean and polished and on the market, our attention turns to finding a home in Indianapolis. We'll fly there this Wednesday for a ten day home search marathon. My dream (and luckily, he's obliging...xo) is to find a mid-century modern gem like the ones I find at my new favorite haunt, AtomicIndy- a blog dedicated to all things Mid-Century Midwest Modern. I have my heart set on a finding a one-story ranch (a basement would be great!), tall windows, an airy open floor plan, and a killer limestone fireplace. Granite counter tops need not apply! If anyone has ANY information about ANY interesting properties in the NE Indianapolis area- Please do let me know! xo

I thought I had a lot of tchochke's to manage in my studio...but it just doesn't compare to artist, Mary Engel's treasure trove-and look how tidy!! I'm especially fond of Mary's hand built mixed media sculptures that mix ceramics and found ceramic figures and findings. Sometimes it seems the simplest and most literally expressed ideas are the ones that work like magic...e.g. watch dog, bird dog. And wasn't it Shakespeare who wrote, brevity is the soul of wit... I suppose he would know! xo

Congratulations are in order for my sweet and lovely friend, Alicia Magee! Alicia and Clay, her Texan beau of five years, are tying the knot this summer! These shots of the couple were taken by one of Alicia's best friends and fellow SCAD alumna, Nichole Barrali of nbpimages.com. The location is Fort Pulaski on Tybee Island just outside of Savannah. The couple chose this spot as it was on one of their regular weekend outings to the island with their dogs that Clay chose to surprise Alicia with a ring! I was fortunate to meet another extremely kind and talented friend via the interwebs a few days ago...Toni from Simple Sparrow and her new project: one hundred photos. Toni and her family are sleepy sunny California beach-town dwellers temporarily living abroad in Germany. I can only imagine the shock her senses are experiencing this winter! I've really enjoyed observing her adventures through Toni's lovely photographs and text on her blog, Waking Up in Bavaria. I'm fasting today for a yearly physical I have this afternoon and I'm trying to defeat my wimpy will-power with lots of interesting distractions! xo

I actually made some brooches over the weekend like I said I was going to do! They are so much fun to make- but I only made five to start with- I need to see if they will actually sell before I spend any more time assembling! You'll either have to make a statement and wear one on your lapel- or pin it to a pillow, bag, or anything else that needs some lovely fandangle! xo
